Usually, when people are looking to buy their first home, the first thing that will most probably come to mind is the price. Granted, this is THE main factor that’s supposed to be considered by every house buyer out there. However, there is also another main factor that must be considered as well.

What is it, you ask? Well, the answer is future-proof.

Now, you might wonder, “how can I find a buy a future-proof home”? What are the aspects I need to consider before deeming my dream home a future-proof home?

Well, among them are:-

When most of us think about our dream homes, the first few things we’ll look for will be the specifications of the home such as the size of the living room or how many rooms does it have? Again, these aspects are crucial in finding your dream home.

But, there are other important aspects to be considered as well.

Conduct an extensive, or brief research about the area surrounding your future home. What are the future developments that will be constructed within that area? Anything from shopping malls, and other property projects can be taken into consideration.

Accessibility to your future home is also an important aspect. Is it easily accessible from that particular highway to your home? Is it located near an LRT or MRT station? Are the public fares with your future home as a destination cheap or reasonable?

Last but not least are amenities. If you have children, is your dream home situated near any schools? Is your dream home near any clinics, or hospitals should you encounter any medical emergencies? Does it have any mechanics nearby should you encounter any car or motorcycle emergencies?

Looking back, these are little things. But sometimes, these little things can be a lifesaver.

Now, you might wonder, how can these factors make your home future-proof? We’ll get back to that in a bit.

For now, let’s move on to the 2nd aspect.

Ensure your dream home is ‘healthy’

Just like us humans need to maintain a healthy body, we also need to maintain a ‘healthy’ home.

Take the roof for instance. Many house buyers neglect this, not knowing the fact that the roof literally provides shelter above their heads.

Simply put, to maintain a ‘healthy’ home, try looking into the minute details of the house and if there are any defects on the house. Ask your property agent about the previous contractors who did the constructions, whether they are registered contractors or not. Again, investing time and effort to do the research yourself here is essential.

Little details like these will ensure the longevity of your home, and the longevity of yourself (and your family) as well.

Remember when I said earlier how can factors such as location, and accessibility ensure your home is future-proof?

Knowing these facts after procuring a home, most people would consider renting their home. However, there are also other, more profitable ways for you to make money out of your first home.

Nowadays, one of the current trends that is spicing up the tourism industry are ‘vacation rentals’, or simply known as homestays.

You can easily utilise the social media to promote your home as a vacation rental or apply your home under the Airbnb platform. For the uninitiated, Airbnb is similar to Grab. But, instead of booking an instant ride, users are looking to book for an instant accommodation, or maybe an extended one (depending on the user).

In this platform, you can highlight the aforementioned factors as the unique selling points for your vacation rental. Doing so can increase the number of bookings of your home.

Another way is to make sure your amenities (toilets, television, air conditioning) is in tip-top condition. This is to ensure that your guests leave a good review after their stay, thus attracting more people to rent your home.

Imagine the possibilities when your home becomes a valuable asset. Not only can you have a comfortable space to live, but you can also generate revenue from it.

So simply put, if you are searching for a future-proof home, it’s just a matter of doing a bit of extensive studying, and also thinking out of the box. It’s always worth it to invest time and effort in search of your future-proof dream home.

After all, you deserve nothing but the best.
